Fauvism

The leaders of the Fauvism movement were Henri Matisse and Andre Derain, the movement only lasted a few years, it started in the early 1900's. Fauvism is a french word meaning wild beast. Fauvism work emphasized painterly qualities and strong colors over the realistic value of the original art peice.

Cubism

My creation exhibits characteristics of cubism because it has cut out pictures of eyes, nose, mouths, an ear, and a hand. There are several drawn hands scattered throughout the collage. I put in drawings of things I'm interested in like dolphins, and the ocean. The surface intersects at seemingly random spots.

Cubism is a style of art that was started in the 20th century by Pablo Picasso. In cubist artworks, objects are broken up, analyzed, and re-assembled in an abstracted form—instead of depicting objects from one viewpoint, the artist depicts the subject from a multitude of viewpoints to represent the subject in a greater context. Often the surfaces intersect at seemingly random angles, removing a coherent sense of depth. The background and object planes interpenetrate one another to create the shallow ambiguous space, one of cubism's distinct characteristics.
